Urban Indigenous Healthy Living Healthy Kids Program Coordinator
The Dryden Native Friendship Centre (DNFC) is currently seeking a reliable and motivated candidate for Urban Indigenous Healthy Living Healthy Kids Program (UIHLHKP) Coordinator – Contract Position. The Healthy Kids coordinator is responsible to design, coordinate, facilitate, monitor and evaluate healthy kids’ programs based on the community’s needs and interests. Focusing on increasing awareness and providing education on healthy eating for children; provide opportunities to support healthy eating for families; increase recreation activities that incorporate traditional activities and increase children and youth physical activity levels through access to recreation facilities, education and activity programs. Coordinator will ensure programing complies with DNFC and OFIFC standards of performance and that all program requirements are met.
SCHEDULE:
Regular full-time hours:
Summer Months (July-August) Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, 35 hours per week. Some flexibility to meet program needs.
Winter Months (September-June) Monday – Friday 10:00am – 6pm, 35 hours per week. Some flexibility to meet program needs.
This is a contract position expected to end March 31st, 2025.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
• Increase awareness and provide education on healthy eating for children
• Increase access and availability to healthy food for children
• Provide opportunities to support healthy eating for families
• Increase recreation activities that incorporate traditional activities
• Increase children and youth physical activity through access to recreation facilities, education, and activity programs
• Plan, organize, supervise, assess, and facilitate nutrition and nutritional education programs
• Increase children and youth physical activities through access to recreation facilities, education, and activity programs.
• Maintain and manage program activities, records, and participant files.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and identify program enhancements.
• Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with local community sports, fitness and recreation agencies/organizations, schools, and other relevant agencies/organizations.
• On-going program promotion within the community, specifically targeting urban Indigenous children, youth, and families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A university or college degree/diploma in Kinesiology, Outdoor Recreation, or other related fields, training and experience (i.e. Fitness Instructor Specialist Certification) may be considered equivalent.
• Acceptable Criminal records check – vulnerable sector will be a condition of employment
• A class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s license or equivalent with acceptable driver’s abstract
• First Aid/CPR or willing to be certified.
• Experience in physical fitness training or be willing to be certified
• Excellent knowledge about healthy lifestyle behaviors, specifically nutrition, healthy weight, and the benefits of living smoke free
• Experience in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programming
• Experience in presenting workshops and facilitating groups
• Excellent computer skills, excellent written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of the Friendship Centre and the various programs provided to the community
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture is an asset
• Ability to speak Ojibwe/Oji-Cree is an asset
• Experience with maintaining and working within a budget is an asset
• Have a passion for, and be willing to role model healthy lifestyle behaviors
• Experience in data collection and evaluation is an asset
WORK CONDITIONS & REMUNERATION:
• Working in a shared office environment
• $22-24.00 per hour
